The 9th annual Big Sky Youth Harmony Rendezvous, June 22 to 26, 2011, was a terrific success. Youth and young adults from Montana, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, and North Dakota enjoyed the fellowship and singing.
Montana chapters of the Barbershop Harmony Society and Sweet Adelines International started this camp to support vocal music education in Montana and the surrounding region. A major goal of the camp is to develop a positive working relationship among Montana's barbershop chapters, Montana's vocal music teachers, and young Montana singers.
Each summer since 2003, the Rendezvous has provided an opportunity for students and teachers who love to sing to experience a cappella choral singing in the barbershop style and to have an educational and performance opportunity.
Luccock Park Camp south of Livingston, Montana, is the beautiful setting for this fun filled 5 day festival of singing, recreation, and fellowship.
The finale for the 2011 camp was a public concert at Reynolds Recital Hall on the campus of Montana State University in Bozeman on Sunday afternoon, June 26th. Andrew Seitz, a college student majoring in music, who had attended many previous Rendezvous as a student camper, did a grand job as the boys' coach when scheduled coach Jim DeBusman was unable to attend at the last minute due to a need for emergency surgery. We're delighted that Jim is doing well and plans to coach the boys for the 2012 Rendezvous.
